Carrie Prejean, Careful Of What You Ask For

gallery_photo1239121941swim_californiaCarrie Prejean, the former Miss California is making the rounds of the national media, and she served notice on Larry King Live, that, like Frank Sinatra, she’s going to do it My Way. Ms. Prejean had her title stripped (stripped, a precursor to her underage “film” career) after nude and semi-nude photos surfaced this year, largely reported on by TMZ.com. On his show, King asked why she decided to settle her lawsuit against the Miss USA Pageant (without going into actual details of the settlement). Prejean repeatedly said she “couldn’t” answer, and that King’s questions were “inappropriate”. King tried to rephrase, but Prejean gave the same answer. As King tried to go to a caller, Prejean removed her microphone, talked with someone off-camera (one would guess a manager or other type of “handler”), but remained on-camera like the proverbial deer caught in the headlights, unsure of her next move.

Before I go on, let me say I completely disagree with the removal of Ms. Prejean’s crown for her racy photos. In this digital day and age, to hold someone to a standard set decades earlier is preposterous. Everyone I know with a camera phone takes pix to send to their boyfriends. When the eventual breakup occurs (and often before), those boyfriends send those photos to their friends, and of course, to websites like TMZ.com and exgfpics.com. That the pageant is owned and overseen by Donald Trump makes it even more ridiculous. But I will also emphatically state that Carrie Prejean is a hypocritical cunt. She blames her answer of the Proposition 8 (CA gay marriage) question posed by the equally cunty Perez Hilton, for her loss. She blames the liberal media for unfair treatment of her, and her “hero” Sarah Palin. Let me explain to Carrie Prejean how this all works.

There is nothing wrong with being conservative. In fact, according to recent statistics, conservatives still outnumber liberals in this country. But, what NOBODY can stand is a hypocrite. Once you make a speech, and bring your religious “convictions” into the discussion, then all your little skeletons are fair game. You posed for some pics, made a masturbation video for your boyfriend…so what? If you didn’t proudly stand with your holier than thou attitude, it wouldn’t be such a big deal. Personally, I couldn’t care less whether you are for or against gay marriage, BUT, once you make your objection on “moral grounds”, then you had better be prepared to follow those pesky little commandments, and I mean all of ‘em…not just the easy ones you feel like obeying on a particular day. You’re such a mental lump of clay. Did you really think the pics/video would never surface? Have you not been paying any attention at all (between visits to your plastic surgeon, of course) to other religious speakers over the last few years? Nearly every one of them has had to deal with some type of scandal, a scandal that has led to their demise. The ones who have survived at least had the smarts to call themselves “born again”. Simply put, “born again” means, “I was an asshole, philanderer, hosebag, etc. before, but those days are behind me. I’m a good person now.” Sometimes being born again will buy you a pass.

And by the way, your semi-appearance on Larry King Live showed just how galling celebrities and wannabes are these days. The ONLY reason anyone would allow you on TV right now, is to discuss your recent scandal. If not for the video, your five minutes of fame would have been up long ago. For you to go on national TV, and say you “can’t discuss” anything about the settlement, is (in all likelihood) a lie. Excuse me…a fucking lie. Every settlement I’ve ever seen with a non-disclosure clause prevents you from discussing particulars about a case (e.g. the amount, and other terms). There is no clause that you can’t discuss your feelings, or why you settled. And, for future reference, you could have avoided all this and been able to promote your horseshit book a little more, if you had answered with, “Larry, it was a long ordeal that I just wanted to  put behind me as quickly as possible”. Tah-dah! How tough was that to come up with? I didn’t even have to put down my Popsicle. Like her “hero” Palin, Prejean needs to choose her publicist, and thoughts, a little more carefully.

Shut The Fuck Up Already!

I guess with every new advancement in technology there is a price to pay. So it goes with instant news and the Internet. We now have the capability of seeing and hearing news, sometimes as it happens. But with our new, instant society comes those who spout off without facts, and want immediate action, regardless of the consequences.

I’m referring to the recent massacre at Ft. Hood on Thursday. A lone gunman murdered 13 people, and injured numerous others. Both fact and fiction filtered throughout the Net all day. Among the fictional reports: a group of people were responsible, and people were being held/questioned. Then, the lone assailant was reportedly killed during the action. Etc., etc., etc. What WAS known was that Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was eventually named as the sole perpetrator of this event, and that he was a lifelong Muslim. He was later found to have recently posted opinions on the Internet comparing suicide bombers to soldiers who jump on a grenade to save others (Note: The posts were from Hasan’s Internet account, but it has not been verified he actually did the posting). Very little else was known to be factual at the time our President went on TV to express his sympathy for the victims. President Obama also stated there would be no rush to judgement, and the matter would be fully investigated.

Apparently this wasn’t enough for Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, who appeared on the Bill O’Reilly Show, and defiantly asked, “What’s the holdup?”. Peters, without any psychological expertise to my knowledge, immediately called Hasan an “Islamic Terrorist”, and basically labeled anyone who disagreed with him part of the “lame media”.  First, as a retired member of the military, I want to thank Mr. Peters for his service to our country. His dedication to our country is unquestionable. That being said, for all his years of service, Peters is not qualified to say a fucking thing about the shooting with any degree of certainty. Among the “facts” Peters used for the bullshit spewing from his pie hole; Hasan had “extremist views”. Response: Although his Internet postings were alleged at the time, Hasan’s postings had not been verified, and if Peters were “known” to have extremist views, why would the military allow him to continue his service?Peters also mentioned that Hasan had cleared out his apartment. Well, as Hasan was scheduled for deployment overseas, why wouldn’t he clear out his apartment? Duh!

Normally I disagree pretty vehemently with Bill O’Reilly, but this time, to his credit, O’Reilly wouldn’t jump on a bandwagon with such a shaky foundation. O’Reilly admitted that Peters could be correct, but without more information he couldn’t summarily agree. O’Reilly gave Peters a chance to backtrack on such an unfounded opinion, but Peters chose to forge ahead like a halftrack through a Russian winter.

The sad part is, many view The O’Reilly Factor as a news program, instead of editorial entertainment, and will blindly validate Peter’s bullshit without scrutiny. It isn’t as if the Obama administration had been dragging their feet on this issue. This was little more than one day after the event occurred! Peter’s outrageous comments should be equally called out, just as we’re ridiculing Dr. Phil’s comments on Larry King, that this could be some kind of post traumatic stress disorder (even though Hasan had previously never been deployed). The bottom line is this…NOBODY has a goddamned clue what was going on in this dude’s head before he decided to open fire. Even though authorities are now in possession of Hasan’s computer, we may never know if his motive was religious, a result of long-term mental illness that went undiagnosed, or he simply “snapped”.

Why is it important to at least let more of the facts come out before jumping to a conclusion? Because we’re supposed to be smarter than our ancestors, and smart people don’t let knee-jerk reactions rule the day. My own personal example was after the Oklahoma City bombing. Before anything was truly known for sure, I went around for a couple of days, giving the stink eye to anyone with skin darker than my own lily-white. How many of you assumed the same thing…that it was a bombing from an overseas terror organization? When the culprit turned out to be Timothy McVeigh (so white as to almost be transparent), I felt like the world’s biggest asshole. I didn’t visit mosques and offer myself as a sacrifice or anything, but from then on, I did promise to hold my opinions until the facts were in.

Now, when all is said and done, Peters may turn out to be correct, but realize, all he’s taken was a guess, nothing more. As O’Reilly rightly pointed out, there are really only two possibilities here; either Hasan is a terrorist, or he’s a nut that snapped. So, Peters has a 50/50 shot at being right at an uneducated guess. I expect more from so-called “experts”.
